Re: 3 signal ACA Hurricane question

Can anyone explain to me what part of the siren this is and where the solenoid is in that picture. ( I might be totally wrong about where it is because the quality isn't good.) I am making/3D printing a 1/2 scale of a Hurricane 130. It looks like a Mk. 1 Hurricane or whatever the square-horned vers...

Re: federal signal model 2 chopper size

I would also be wary about trying to make a 3D-printed Model 2 run at full RPM with a chopper of that size out of 3D-printed materials. Model 2s run at over 6000 RPM and that puts a lot of strain on the chopper. There's a reason Federal makes theirs out of aluminum, the material needs to be able to...

Whoa, 8 inches? So I CAN 3D-print a full-size Model 2 then! Good to know :)

Re: Horrible Siren setups

I'm sure that's probably intentional. The sound is angled upwards so aircraft overhead can hear the siren :-D

I had no idea Skil made sirens! I only know them for their power tools. Neat!

Re: SD-10 in Oregon City needs more information

I'm in a similar situation, and I'm seriously considering a military surplus genset. A MEP-805a 30 kW genset would provide plenty of 3-phase juice for an old 10-horsepower siren, and can handle the current needed to get the siren going. Of course you'll need a trailer or something able to tow one of...

Re: How do I help encourage my 9yr old with this interest?

Ever since a few months ago when my 9yr old was very startled by an emergency test of our towns siren he has been hyper focused on learning about models, tones and patterns, etc. He's told me ALL about it. I don't see any books available, im not sure where to go looking for content, he has been stu...

Re: Does anyone know how to make a simple air raid siren?

1) Make a non-rotating stator to attach to the drill somewhere. The stator should have a single row of ports at a minimum - how many ports is up to you. For reference, I think Federal Signal's Model 2 is currently made with 5 ports. 2) Make a rotating rotor with the same number of ports as the stato...

I don't know if the Thunderbolt can be considered rare in the wild, but every collector seems to have at least one of them.
I'd really like to know where I put my Thunderbolt siren, because I haven't seen it anywhere :D

(I don't have one but wish I did!)

Re: How do people trypically get their hands on sirens?

I got lucky during a site inspection for my job at a building that was being renovated. Part of the renovation was removing the old siren on the roof, which was blown down from 2 floors up during a strong wind storm anyway. I gave the guy pizza money and brought the siren home a couple days later!
