Re: How far away have you heard a siren?

Just today I heard a Model 2 from nearly 4 miles away! I was in Hartford recording their OM-120 when just before it went off I heard the 2 in St. Lawrence (each of these cities are in Wisconsin btw)

Re: Low mounted Sirens in US

Here is a very low mounted ACA Screamer in Radisson, WI. It was recently moved from an old water to this short pole.

Re: What does "SWA" stand for?

It's stands for Severe Weather Awareness (Day/Week). That's usually the day where most states have their annual tornado drill and that can involve activating sirens.

Re: Waukesha legacy system

To my understanding, Waukesha used to have a Federal Signal 500 DHTT that once stood on the Avalon Manor before being replaced by the Alertronic. I believe the controls for it are still in the building, though the 500 head most likely got scrapped. BTW, thanks for posting their history!

I also found this in Wausau,
Judging by those downward projectors, that looks to be a Federal Model 5 or 7. Which building was this on, out of curiosity?

Re: Bear Creek, WI mystery siren

Hey everybody. I was searching for vintage siren photos and found this Thanks for posting! Based on a conversation with other siren enthusiasts, we've come to believe this is a Sterling Model M due to the size, the intake and sounder shape, and the small inner ring in front of the intake. This was ...

Re: Cosgrave siren In Jerome

What makes this post even more suspicious is the O.P posted this shortly after the person who now owns a Cosgrave posted himself bringing his unit home. I'm starting to believe this is a fake post and was done only for attention. The last time the police department said anything about them possibly ...

Re: MS-490 Advice

Greetings, I would advise you buy an MS-590 rather than a 490 because I've seen a large increase of MS-490s kicking the bucket as opposed to MS-590 since the past few years. However, many 120 volt MS-590s (or the cheaper ones) are sold out on most websites, unless you get lucky. So you would need to...

Re: Milwaukee siren system being redone.

Every single siren in the current system with the possible exception of the hurricane will be replaced. Even the newer 128s. Now that this upgrade is presumably underway, do we have any idea about what is going in? The internet seems silent and I can't locate any government documentation about an u...

Re: Fond du Lac T128

That's gotta suck to anyone who lives nearby it. My thought is a contactor or relay got stuck on and couldn't retract back in the off position. It might even be a case where the FC/RTU messed up and for whatever reason turned on the siren and couldn't shut it off.
