Re: Mysterious Alertronic 7200 sirens could be in and around the k25 or y12 plants from the Manhattan project.

This is somewhat unrelated but as long as there is a thread about Oak Ridge I may as well ask. Apparently, according to a map, there are two Whelen 3000s suspended from a water tower? Where is the proof of this? They've since been removed, but they absolutely did exist. It's perhaps one of the most...

Re: Mysterious Alertronic 7200 sirens could be in and around the k25 or y12 plants from the Manhattan project.

From what I've gathered through Google Earth, streetview, and actual field visits from people, there is only one Alertronic AL-7200 left standing; that being the one on Scarboro Road. The one on Blair Road and Perimeter Road, at the K-25 plant, were removed around 2020-2021. The two located within ...

Just curious if anyone has ever brought a DB meter to measure output of each siren? Would be interesting to see how loud everything is in real world testing.
There are usually a few people that come with db meters, I saw maybe two or three people with them when I went this year.

you need to put up a video of the engine running on your YouTube channel.
I agree with this. Once you get it going, you should definitely film it; let's hear how that old Wisconsin sings at 3000 RPM!

Why is there bread?
Is it just for scale?
Read how he removed the bearing, that pretty well explains why there's bread. Such an interesting trick, I gotta try it for myself!

Re: Restoring a Gasoline Mobil Directo!

How dues the siren make a proper attack signal? Dues the engine have a clutch? Engine speeds up and slows down to make the attack signal. It's done through the Bendix-Startix timer and landline or radio system. The clutch is a centrifugal clutch. The engine will start and idle around 1200 RPM, the ...

Re: Restoring a Gasoline Mobil Directo!

Well boys... it's home. Now the fun begins That VF4 looks almost tiny on that platform! I can only imagine the whole siren fully assembled weighs around 1,000 lbs. Also it looks like it has the automatic choke; likely has the Startix system too (pull a switch and it starts automatically. Truly some...
