Re: Vintage siren photos thread

Here's a really old image of the San Francisco Ferry building Heath siren in 1945. An electrician was working on it at that time.

Re: Cincinnati Metropolitan Area Sirens

A little bit of an update for those interested: Harveysburg's 4/5 Thunderbolt 1000T got a new blower motor and works fine. The blower was reported to not be working properly in January. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Mr. Werden fixed the 1000T. He's fixed those ThunderBolts up there several ...

Re: Would it be legal to blast my siren off along with the city sirens on testing day??

Usually you must do 2 things before doing this: 1. Inform your local sheriff's department or police department and ask for permission. State that you will only sound the siren during tests or actual emergencies, no in between. 2. Inform the EMA and tell them you will be sounding the siren on test da...

Re: How far away have you heard a siren?

One ASC T128 from 4 miles away. They really pack a punch in terms of output.

In comparison, the 2001's near me can barely be heard from 2 miles away.

Re: Reverse wired Thunderbolts?

Reverse wired means that the electrical leads on the blower have reversed polarity, causing the blower to suck instead of blow. This greatly reduces the original output. When a Thunderbolt blower is reversed, the air will still go to the horn. But, the siren will be much higher pitched. The sound out...

Re: Oldest Thunderbolt sirens in existence

Here's one that was installed in Reading, OH in 1953. It no longer works, but was installed atop Patheon Pharmaceuticals. It still stands there to this day. It is a 1000. Reading T Bolt 1953.PNG Just outside of Pleasant Ridge, OH in Amberly village, there was a 1953 Thunderbolt 1000T located in Fren...

Re: Dominican Republic Cosgrave siren

Until someone provides sufficient evidence, I am very skeptical that this is a Cosgrave.

Gamewell was not widely known for exporting Cosgrave sirens outside of the US.

Re: Cosgrave siren In Jerome

The relay is definitely trashed for sure. I went out there last year and took some pictures of the siren head. From my position, I could see the open control box and the burnt relay. I'm not entirely sure on the siren motor's status, but it more than likely needs to be rebuilt considering it took a d...

Re: Cosgrave siren In Jerome

Good to hear. Seems like the relay was the only thing damaged by lightning.
