Palisades NPP Siren System

Mon Jun 02, 2025 12:52 am

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had a map or former locations of the Palisades NPP Siren System. I am looking for where the Whelen WS-2000s and WS-3000s were.

I wanted to try and make a map of these, so please let me know if you have any information.

I'm not sure about where they resided while they were in service to Palisades, *however* I can give you two current locations of ex-Palisades sirens.

When they upgraded, a good chunk of them were donated to Kalamazoo county. I think if I recall correctly, 4 to Kalamazoo township, around 8 to Comstock, one in Vicksburg, and a few up in Gull Lake.

Only two of those remain. There's one at the ball fields in Vicksburg, which I believe is still active. It's got an FC on it, so I presume it's tied into the system. 42.125563, -85.5455689. The other one is up by Gull Lake Isle, and I have no clue what condition it's in and if it tests or not. You can't see it from above, but you can see it on streetview. 42.383772, -85.4056487.

Apologies if you're already aware of these, or if this wasn't quite what you were looking for. Otherwise, hope this helps.

Ah, thank you! I already knew about these locations, but it's still helpful.

I actually found a map for the Former Palisades NPP Siren System on NRC.gov! Sadly, it doesn't list the types, and since both Google Earth Pro and NETRonline have blurry aerial images, it would also be hard to try and figure out what it looked like.

Here's the link, scroll down to page 25 of the pdf:

Actually, now that I think about it, the Vicksburg siren has a number "3" nailed into the pole...and it looks like there was another number next to it. I don't know if this has any significance at all. I really need to go up to Gull Lake and see if there's a number nailed into that pole as well. Maybe I will make an effort to do that this week. If I go, i'll post an update here.

Here's the picture of the "3" on the pole, though. Bonus pictures included because why not?
